Groom's Wedding Checklist Woven Durham

Groom's Wedding Checklist

Congratulations on your engagement! An exciting time for any couple is their engagement and the run-up to their wedding however, we all know what the men are really looking forward to - the stag do!

It's no surprise a day on the beers with your boys is the number one priority for most Grooms, but before you do that, here are a few things you can help with, in the planning process, to ease the pressure on your other half. From getting suited and booted to planning your wheels, our Groom's wedding checklist has all the very important to do's you need to consider before the official I Do's.

  • BOOK A VENUE

Finding your wedding venue is one of the most important first steps in planning a wedding. Do your research, at home or away, to find the perfect venue for your wedding. Take into consideration how many people you will be invited to the ceremony and the evening event, as well as what options you wish to have available for your wedding breakfast. Booking a date early will free up planning time and allow you to plan other things like suit hire or transport and flowers.

  • ORGANISE TRANSPORT

A classic car, camper van or even a motorbike - travel to your wedding in style. There are limitless options of transport when it comes to weddings, make it a once in a lifetime experience and book something out of the ordinary. Remember: If you book for a bridal party factor in the style and size of a brides dress to make sure she can comfortably enjoy the ride.

  • RESEARCH GUEST ACCOMMODATION

Getting married away from home or have friends and family travelling to join you on your big day? Make sure you research accommodation nearby, with a range of price points, so it's easy for guests to book and know they will be close enough to the wedding. Some venues may have accommodation on-site, but websites like AirB&B may be a good alternative.

  • BUY THE RINGS

One of the most important pieces of the wedding ceremony. Go together with your fiancé to pick out your wedding bands. Whether traditional or modern there are numerous options for anyone's preferred style. This is a piece of jewellery you will be wearing forever so look about and don't make any snap decisions. Remember to make a note for the best man to take these off your hands the morning of the wedding before the ceremony.

  • PLAN THE ENTERTAINMENT

A DJ, Brass band or a solo singer to serenade you and perform your first dance song - there could be multiple options of entertainment to include in your big day. Planning extra entertainment like fireworks, a beer pong table or a photo booth can be the icing on the cake for the wedding evening and make it a night to remember. Research and plan in advance to ensure your wedding dates are available.

  • PICK YOUR SUIT

Whether you opt to buy or hire your wedding suit, making it personal and reflective of your personality is essential. If you want a classic three-piece suit, modern tweed or tails and top hat - picking what you want to wear on your wedding day is just as important as a dress for the bride. Photographs last a lifetime and we want you looking and feeling your best.

Let's get you looking dapper for your big day, browse suits here, view the suit hire brochure or book an in-store appointment with a personal tailor.

  • ORGANISE GROOMSMEN & WEDDING PARTY OUTFITS

Once you're suited and booted it's time to look after the groomsmen and wedding party. Whether you want to be matching or have a contrasting suit or element, like a reverse coloured suit jacket/waistcoat, the possibilities are endless.

Groomsmen suits can be bought or hired, depending on your budget, but we find most grooms buy their own and hire for the rest of their party. We have a selection of suits available for both and would be happy to go through that with you at a wedding consultation. Don't forget the little gents in your life - we also offer children's suit hire from ages 1-12 on selected suits so they too can match the wedding party.

  • VOWS

Choosing or writing your vows can be daunting, especially for those who aren't good at PDAs, but simple is key. Write down everything you want to say, the reasons you and your partner are made for each other, we find bullet points help and expand from there. Get the best man or a close family member to read them if you need an extra opinion. Remember, wedding vows are usually quite serious so keep the jokes for the speeches!

  • BAR

Are you having a free bar or is it a bring your own drink venue? Make sure you've got the bar under control to ensure the drinks are flowing on the big day. Why not ask the venue if you can organise a speciality drink or cocktail named after you and your partner or a memorable experience you've shared to add some personality to the day?

  • GROOMSMEN'S GIFTS

A little thank you gift to your groomsmen for being a part of your big day are becoming increasingly popular. A token of appreciation can go a long way however big or small. A pair of cufflinks, tie pin and a cigar are a great option that will give you something to enjoy on the wedding evening and a reminder of the day they can wear again. Check out our range of cufflinks and accessories. Cigars are available in-store only.

  • WRITE YOUR SPEECH

A less formal and usually funny element to your wedding breakfast is the speeches, traditionally from the groom, best man and father of the bride. Make it light-hearted with a couple of emotional highlights. You could include some funny stories from you and your partner's courtship or fond memories you share. This is also a great moment to remember any family or friends who can no longer be with you to celebrate, thank those who have helped you with the wedding planning and raise a glass to the future. Top tip: mention how amazing your bride looks, a lot of time, money and effort went into creating their look and it will make her feel extra special.

  • STAG DO

I don't think this one needs explaining - do you? Enjoy yourself however you see fit. A city trip, a foreign destination, an activity day like go-karting or a relaxing time with your friends and family. Whatever you do, enjoy it!
